U15 A Huron Heat win gold in Guelph at annual Winter Classic

With plenty of Huron Heat teams away at tournaments over the weekend, it’s nice to hear that some of them returned with medals around their necks.
In Guelph at the annual Winter Classic, the U15 A Heat won gold with a 2-1 win in the finals over the Oakville Hornets, while the U13 A Heat made it to the semi-finals, only to fall to the Waterloo Ravens by a score of 3-1.
In Exeter, for the annual Pink on the Rink tournament, the U11 C Heat made it to the finals against the Wingham 86ers, but lost by a score of 3-0. The U13 C Heat made it to the semi-finals in Exeter, but lost to the Sarnia Lady Sting by a score of 4-3.
In Guelph, three teams were there to take part in the Winter Classic.
First, the U13 A Heat opened play on Friday with a 1-0 loss to the Clarington Flames, followed by a 2-0 win over the Ayr Rockets.
The next day, the team beat the Guelph Junior Gryphons by a score of 4-0 and then shutout the Durham West Lightning by a score of 2-0. That earned them a spot in the semi-finals on Sunday, where they lost to the Waterloo Ravens by a score of 3-1.
On Friday, the U15 A Heat began tournament play with a 2-0 loss to the Flamborough Falcons and a 1-0 win over the Oakville Hornets before a 4-0 win over the Kitchener Lady Rangers and a 2-0 win over the Cambridge Roadrunners on Saturday.
On Sunday in the semi-finals, the Heat kept their shutout streak going, refusing to allow a goal for the fifth straight game, beating the North Simcoe Capitals by a score of 3-0 before beating the Oakville Hornets by a score of 2-1 in the finals, allowing their only goal of the entire tournament in that game.
The U18 B Heat opened play on Friday with a 2-0 win over the Belmont Blazers, followed by a 1-1 tie with the St. Catharines Brock Junior Badgers.
On Saturday, the team lost by a score of 4-2 to the North Halton Twisters and then ended their game with the Woodstock Wildcats in a scoreless tie, bringing their tournament to a close.
In Exeter, the U9 C Heat played the Upper Maitland Mustangs and the Mooretown Lady Flags on Friday, followed by Saturday games with the St. Marys Rock and the Central Perth Predators.
The U9 HL Heat also played in the tournament but didn’t keep scores. On Friday, the girls played the Lucan Irish and the South Huron Sabres before taking on the Bluewater Hawks and Ilderton Jets on Saturday.
The U11 B Heat, on Friday, lost to the South Huron Sabres by a score of 3-1 and then the Mooretown Lady Flags by a score of 4-2 before, on Saturday, beating the St. Marys Rock by a score of 2-1 and losing to the London Devilettes by a score of 2-1.
The U11 C Heat opened their tournament with a 2-0 shutout over the Central Perth Predators followed by a 4-0 win over the Bluewater Hawks. The next day, the team opened with a 3-0 win over Parkhill and then a 3-1 win over the St. Marys Rock.
The girls then made it to the semi-finals on Sunday where they beat the South Huron Sabres by a score of 1-0 before falling to the Wingham 86ers in the finals by a score of 3-0.
On Friday, the U13 C Heat beat Parkhill by a score of 3-0 before losing to the Wingham 86ers by a score of 3-1. On Saturday, the team beat the Lambeth Lancers by a score of 1-0 and then won their game with the Wilmot Wolverines by a score of 2-1.
That sent the team to the semi-finals on Sunday to play the Sarnia Lady Sting, which the locals lost by a score of 4-3.
On Friday, the U15 C Heat opened their tournament with a 1-0 win over the South Huron Sabres, followed by a 3-0 loss at the hands of the St. Marys Rock.
The next day, the team lost by a score of 3-0 to the Stratford Aces and then lost again to Parkhill by a score of 2-0.
The final team in the tournament, the U18 C Heat, lost to the Upper Maitland Mustangs by a score of 4-0 in their first game of the tournament on Friday, followed by a 1-0 loss to the St. Marys Rock. The next day, the team lost by a score of 2-1 to the South Huron Sabres before falling to the West Oxford Inferno by a score of 3-0.
In regular season action, on Sunday, the U7 Heat played the Ilderton Jets in Clinton, but a score was not kept for that game. Also that day, the U15 BB Heat lost to the Southpoint Stars in Clinton by a score of 3-1, the U11 HL Heat beat the Lambeth Lancers by a score of 4-0 in Brussels, the game between the U15 B Heat and the Bluewater Hawks on the road ended in a scoreless tie and the U13 HL Heat beat the Mooretown Lady Flags on the road by a score of 3-0.
At press time, scores were not available for games that day between the U11 A Heat and the Woodstock Wildcats in Clinton and the Senior C team playing Monkton on the road.
On Saturday, the U13 HL Heat lost by a score of 4-1 to the Bluewater Hawks on the road and the U11 HL Heat beat the West Oxford Inferno, also on the road, by a score of 6-1.
Back on Wednesday, Dec. 3, the U15 C Heat lost to the South Bruce Blades by a score of 10-1 in Teeswater. Then, on Thursday, Dec. 11, the U13 B Heat hosted the London Devilettes in Seaforth, but a score for that game was unavailable at press time.
Looking ahead, the U13 B Heat will head to Mount Forest on the weekend for the Megan Beyers Tournament, beginning on Friday with games against the Twin Centre Hericanes and the Saugeen Shores Storm, followed by Saturday games with the Owen Sound Ice Hawks and the Mount Forest Rams.
In regular season games on Friday, the U13 HL Heat will take on the West Oxford Inferno in Ingersoll, while the U18 C Heat will host the Wilmot Wolverines in Hensall, the U15 C Heat will play the St. Marys Rock in Goderich and the U15 B Heat will welcome the Ilderton Jets to Seaforth.
On Saturday, the U11 A Heat will welcome the London Devilettes to Goderich, the U9 B team will play the Grand River Mustangs, the U13 C Heat will play the Wilmot Wolverines and the U13 HL Heat will play the Mooretown Lady Flags, all in Seaforth, while the U18 BB Heat will play the Sarnia Lady Sting in Clinton.
On the road that day, the U11 B Heat will play the Kincardine Kinucks, the U15 C Heat will play the South Huron Sabres, the U11 C Heat will take on the Mount Forest Rams, the U18 B Heat will play the Woodstock Wildcats and the U15 A Heat will play the Lakeshore Lightning.
The next day, Sunday, Dec. 14, the U9 B Heat will play the Cambridge Roadrunners on the road, the U13 A Heat will host the Lambeth Lancers in Clinton and the U9 C and HL Heat teams will play a pair of Bluewater Hawks teams.
The U15 A Heat will play the London Devilettes in Clinton, the U11 A Heat will play the Bluewater Hawks on the road, the U11 B Heat will play the Saugeen Shores Storm in Brussels, the U11 C Heat will play the St. Marys Rock in Clinton and the U13 HL Heat will play the Central Perth Predators on the road. The U18 BB Heat will be in London to play the Devilettes, the U18 B Heat will host the Woodstock Wildcats in Seaforth, the Senior C team will welcome Elma Logan to Brussels, the U15 C Heat will play the Mitchell Meteors in Clinton and the U18 C Heat will play the Irish in Lucan.
In weekday action, the U13 A Heat will play the Bluewater Hawks in Seaforth on Tuesday, Dec. 16 and then, on Thursday, Dec. 18, the U11 B Heat will play the South Huron Sabres and the U13 B Heat will play the Twin Centre Hericanes, both in Seaforth, while the U15 C Heat will play the Lucan Irish in Brussels.
