Stewart John Alexander Steiss

Mr. Stewart John Alexander Steiss passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2021 at Listowel Memorial Hospital. He was in his 80th year.

 

Stewart was the beloved husband of Madelene for 56 years, the proud dad of Steve Steiss and Robert ‘Bob’ Steiss (Ang Sills) and grandpa of Ashlyn and Erica Steiss. Stewart was the brother of Eileen Mann and Jean Stiles and brother-in-law of Mervyn (Sherry) Quipp, Bill (Donna) Quipp and Sharon Wolff. He will be missed by many extended family members. Stewart was predeceased by his parents Alex and Ruby Steiss, sister Winnifred Mann and brothers-in-law Charlie Mann, Harry Mann and Gordon Stiles.

 

Stewart was a well-loved community member; serving with the Grey firefighters, driving a school bus for over 40 years and being the well-known eggman who delivered eggs to the surrounding area. He loved sports, either watching the Toronto Maple Leafs or the Toronto Blue Jays or playing ball or trying his hand at curling. He enjoyed fishing and spent many vacations at the cottage on the French River visiting relatives and trying to catch ‘the big one’. 

 

Stewart adored his grandchildren and was always ready for a hug when they would climb up onto his lap. He was an insightful dad, spending time teaching his boys to be kind and to treat everyone with respect. He was a doting husband and true gentleman who kept the love of his life laughing and enjoying every minute of their time spent together. Stewart’s smile and social personality will be missed.

 

A private, family funeral service took place on Thursday, Dec. 30 at Knox Presbyterian Church in Cranbrook. Rev. Peter Nijp officiated.

 

A public, graveside service with a celebration of life gathering will take place in the spring at Knox Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Cranbrook. Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Knox Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
