Steven "Sam" Dougherty
The son of Sam Dougherty of Londesborough and Thelma Dougherty of Port Alberni, British Columbia, Sam Dougherty passed away suddenly at his home in Waterloo.
He leaves his wife Susan and son Matthew to mourn his passing. He is survived by his sister Lynn Dougherty of London, brother Brian Dougherty of British Columbia and sister Karla Stacey of Campbell River, British Columbia.
He attended Hullett Public School in Londesborough, Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton and graduated from Goderich District Collegiate Institute in Goderich. He furthered his education at Cambrian College in Sudbury, studying theatre production and graduating in 2008.
Steven was known as Sam by his friends and those close to him. Sam was very proud to be a father to Matthew and enjoyed helping him grow. Sam was a kind, caring, generous and talented young man who would attempt any task, just to see if he could make it work.
He enjoyed inventing, building things and the arts, making balloon animals, playing several musical instruments and singing.
He could not wait until he turned 12 years old to be able to join Goderich Air Cadets. He was a part of that squadron, working his way through the ranks, until he aged out at 18. He belonged to the Makerspace in London for many years while he lived there and then in Waterloo.
He started flying RC planes at an early age, his uncle Bryan Purdon was instrumental in giving him guidance when he first began flying and as he grew in the sport. He continued to build many planes and flew with various clubs.
He had many friends from all his interests in his life. His generous caring spirit will be missed by everyone’s life that he touched.
A memorial service will be held on June 16 from 1-4 p.m. at the Waterloo Knights of Columbus to celebrate Sam’s life.
