Sandra Adele (née Rath) Whitfield
Sandra Adele (née Rath) Whitfield, passed away at Wingham and District Hospital on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021. She was in her 83rd year.
Sandra was the loving wife of Karl Whitfield for 64 years; mother of Lonnie (Marilyn), Dale (Sharon), Kurt (Lisa) and Dean Whitfield and grandmother of Nicolle (Ryan) Cook, Nollan Whitfield, Tori Oliver (Adam Schiestel), Kellsey Whitfield (Chad Henderson), Carly (Andrew) Gubasta, Braydon Whitfield, Kendall (Brett) James and Collin Whitfield. She will be missed by 12 great-grandchildren.
Sandra was the sister of Yvonne Youngblut and sister-in-law of Rosemarie (Harold) Campbell and Gordon Howatt. She was predeceased by sisters Joyce (Len) Radford, Colleen Howatt, brother-in-law Lyle Youngblut, and sister-in-law Joan (Edward) Watson.
Sandra loved her farm. She farmed alongside Karl for many years, and raised four boys. She was a hard worker with a green thumb, growing a large vegetable garden for many years. She loved all her farm animals – cats, dogs and cows (and her boys).
Sandra enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching them grow. She lived in the same area her entire life, beginning on Nature Centre Road, where she had to walk uphill both ways to school (so we’ve been told).
Sandra loved to bowl, taking many trophies home from the bowling alley in Blyth. She loved hockey – whether it was to watch the countless games of her sons, or to cheer her beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. A self-proclaimed Leaf fan forever, she anxiously waited for them to win the cup.
Although Sandra was a no-nonsense mother, she had an abundance of love to give, and, most of all, wanted her family to be happy.
According to her wishes, a family graveside service took place on Thursday, Sept. 30 at the Blyth Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of one’s choice, would be appreciated.
