Ruth (Higgins) King
At University Hospital in London on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, Mrs. Ruth (Higgins) King of Belgrave passed away suddenly at the age of 96.
Ruth is survived by her devoted grandchildren, Taylor Kelly of St. Thomas and Hunter Kelly of New Hamburg, and daughter-in-law Jeanne King of Stratford. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, neighbours and friends and her large extended family.
Ruth is predeceased by her husband John King, son Michael King, daughter Kathleen Kelly, grandson Johnathan King, partner Charles Cook, parents Robert and Lila (Brydges) Higgins, sisters Jean (Roy) Pattison and Margaret Higgins, and brothers Alvin (Verna) and Jeremiah (Marlene) Higgins.
Ruth enjoyed many things over her 96 years - a big one of them being flowers and gardening. She had a green thumb to rival Mother Nature herself! She was an active member of St Paul’s Trinity in Wingham, working on the Altar Guild, and the Anglican Church Women. She loved animals and her Pomeranians Bambi and Joe.
In her later years, her feline companion Jasper was a best friend to her. She was an incredible cook and baker, and could sew and make anything. She loved puzzles and watching the news and, above all else, spending time with those she loved. Her positive attitude and radiant smile made even the darkest days tolerable. She will be deeply missed by everyone who had the honour to meet and know her.
Visitation will be held at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Friday, Jan. 9 from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Reception will follow at St. Paul’s Trinity Anglican Church in Wingham.
Interment will take place at Wingham Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Paul’s Trinity Anglican Church in Wingham or the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) would be appreciated.
