Olene Isabel née Godkin
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden loss of Olene Isabel née Godkin, who passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Stratford General Hospital on Friday, Jan. 10 in her 89th year.
She was the loving and devoted wife to Murray. True partners, Murray and Olene thoroughly enjoyed cash crop farming, camping and travelling the world and the road of life together for 68 years.
Olene was the doting mother of Steven Dennis and Judy Simpson, Peggy and John Wakabayashi, Laura Forbes and Elaine Grosvenor.
She was the proud grandmother of Natalie Wakabayashi, Adrienne Wakabayashi, Danny and Lori-Anne Forbes, Adam Forbes, Kevin Grosvenor and Rachel Grosvenor and a loving “GG” to her great-granddaughters, Elsie and Leena Forbes.
She will be sadly missed by her sisters Audrey (the late Lloyd) Beuermann and Merle (the late James) Burns and her sister-in-law Marion (the late Lavern) Godkin. Olene was predeceased by her brother Mervin (the late June) Godkin and her sister Lois (the late Glenn) Sinclair. She was the beloved Aunt Olene to many nieces and nephews.
Olene was known for her beautiful flower gardens, as well as her abundant vegetable garden, which filled her larder with numerous pickles and preserves. Many relatives and friends were lucky to enjoy her tasty cooking and baking, as she was always willing to host them for supper. For decades, Olene was an active member of her local United Church Women and enjoyed the warmth of her many friends within the community.
Visitation took place at Riverside Funeral Home, Brussels Chapel on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and Wednesday, Jan. 15 and the funeral service followed.
In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Winthrop United Church would be appreciated.
Please send cards of sympathy and donation cheques to Box 340, Brussels.
