Maxwell Glen Demaray

Maxwell Glen Demaray, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Listowel Hospital on April 21, 2022. He was in his 89th year.

 

Max was the loving father of Debbie (Joe) Seili, Rick of Brussels; Rob (Sharon), Blackfalds, Alberta and David, Woodstock.
He was the proud grandpa of Jacquie (Dwayne), Michael (Natasha), Christine, Amy (Geoff), Daryl (Jessica), Heather (Brandon), Tracey (Chris), Ashley (Derek) and Drew; the adoring great-grandpa of Tim (Laura), Derrick, Rachael, Hailie, Kaila, Stephanee, Addison, Chelsea, Connor, Elliana, Asher, Aurora and the great-great grandpa of Blakley.

 

Max was predeceased by three brothers, parents Norm and Ila Demaray and his second wife Kaye (2019). He will be missed by all who knew him.

 

Max and his brothers were born near Belmont, Ontario where he grew up on the family dairy farm. No television made for a full rich outdoor life. He learned to skate by the age of six on the river behind the Dorchester golf course. After marrying his sweetheart, he purchased a 150-acre farm on the fourth concession of Grey Township, near Brussels in 1959, buying 150 acres for the unheard-of price of $100 per acre. His dad, Norman, advised him that he would never be able to pay for it. 

 

Max was a husband, father, farmer, referee, ball player and coach, bus driver, Lions Club member, insurance director, township reeve, school board member and Legion member and was a master of connections with everyone. 

 

He often had suggestions for practical jokes on others. His favourite sport of hockey had him helping the local hockey scene by providing his services as a referee. He has blown the final whistle in his final game, now watching from the fan zone, albeit as a Bruins fan.

 

Friends and family were received for visitation at Riverside Funeral Home on Monday, April 25. The funeral service took place at Riverside Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 26. Rev. Colin Snyder officiated.

 

In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Brussels United Church, Brussels. Morris and Grey Renovation Fund or the MS Society of Canada would be appreciated. Cards of sympathy may be sent to Box 255, Brussels.
