Mary Helen Walker
Helen Walker passed away on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016 at Sakura House, Woodstock after a brief battle with cancer. Helen was born on Sept. 2, 1936 in Hullett Township, the daughter of the late John and Carrie (Dempsey) Young. She was 79.
Helen was the beloved wife of the late Lloyd Walker, who predeceased her in 2014 and the loving mother of Douglas Walker, New Hamburg; Denise Walker, Stratford; Steve and Judy Walker, New Hamburg and Beverley McLellan, Brussels. Helen took great delight in her seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She will also be missed by her in-laws, Iris Young, Hensall, Joe and Eileen Walker, Bluevale; Emma and Clarence Henning, Wingham and Edna McTavish, Wingham, as well as her many nephews and nieces. Helen was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Dianne Walker, one brother, Roy Young, two sisters-in-law, Pearl Wright and Helen Grey and three brothers-in-law, Jim Wright, Ross Grey and Bill Walker.
Helen was a member of the Salvation Army in Stratford and was actively involved in various activities. As well, she enjoyed her many years of volunteering at the MCC Thrift Store in New Hamburg. Most recently, she enjoyed new friendships with her neighbours at Nith Terrace. She loved travelling, playing cards and getting together with friends. She loved to laugh, had an infectious smile, a welcoming hug and a warm heart.
Family and friends will be received at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Thursday, Feb. 11 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Major Glenda Davis will officiate. An interment service will be held at the Wingham Cemetery in the spring.
It is with deep gratitude that the family thanks Dr. Stacey Snider and Zoe McIntosh, the team from the Community Care Access Centre and the staff at Sukura House for the kind and attentive care given to our mother.
