Marilyn McDonald (Newman)
Marilyn McDonald (Newman) passed away with family around her at Huronview Home for the Aged in Clinton on Friday, March 14, 2025 in her 92nd year.
She was the beloved wife of the late Don McDonald, who predeceased her on April 28, 1998, just after celebrating 45 years of marriage. They farmed together north of Walton for many years and were very involved in the community.
Marilyn was the proud mom of Bruce McDonald and Linda Yenssen, Heather and Ron Clarke, Cathy and Paul Flaxbard, Pat and Michael Parr, Jim and Linda McDonald and Jeanne and Rob Dionne. She was deeply loved by her 16 grandchildren: Fiona McDonald (Rob Guerra), Jamie Clarke, Jackie Clarke and Krysta Clarke, Megan (Patrick) Rusnak, Kevin (Alex) Flaxbard, Shawn Flaxbard (Chris Byrne), Ryan (Katie) Bremner, Andrea (Mike) Frias, Jeff (Diane) Parr, Tom (Meredith) Parr, Sarah (Barry) Young, Andrew (Amber Westin) McDonald, Tim Dionne and Katie Dionne (Patrick) Tingey and 16 great-grandchildren: Alex McDonald, Emery, Easton and Elgin Glavin, Shaye Rusnak, Dawson Galway, Oliver Byrne, Lyra and Wil Bremner, Oscar, Malcolm and Evy Frias, John Parr, Dallas and Karter Young, Mason Harris and Desmond Tingey.
Marilyn was the loving sister of Barb Tervit, Doug Newman, Bill and Fran Newman. She was predeceased by grandson Stephen Parr, siblings and in-laws Don and Betty Mae Newman, George Tervit, Jeanie Newman, Betty Jane and John Gill, Rick Newman, Ken and Leona McDonald, Mary and Murray Huether.
Marilyn loved her family and friends. She loved going dancing with Don and the rest of the Walton gang at Family Paradise and other social events in the community and, in later years, with friends in the Grand Bend area.
She was a wonderful cook and baker and her pies graced many turkey supper tables at Duff’s United Church in Walton, where she was involved as treasurer for many years and with the United Church Women.
She loved being outside, gardening, or just enjoying sitting in the sun getting a little tan or in the shade enjoying some social time.
She was dedicated to her family, raised six busy children, enjoyed being part of a large and noisy family, and extended her family lines to include many of the compassionate caregivers in Maplewood and Huronview who took such excellent care of her these last 6 years. She will be sorely missed.
A private family service will take place, with spring interment. An open celebration of life will be held at a later date that has yet to be determined.
In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations to Alzheimer Society Huron Perth or the Seaforth Community Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
Cards of sympathy and donation cheques may be sent to Box 340, Brussels, N0G 1H0.
