Isobel (MacEwen) Arbuckle
At Wingham and District Hospital on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, Isobel (MacEwen) Arbuckle of Nine Mile Villa, Lucknow, passed away peacefully in her 99th year.
She was the beloved wife of the late Robert (Bob) Arbuckle (1992) and the loving mom of Margaret and Rick Stapleton, Joan Arbuckle and Gary Adams, all of Wingham, and the late Douglas Arbuckle, who predeceased her in 2015.
She will be remembered by her grandsons, Daniel and Rachel Stapleton of Burnaby, British Columbia and Joey Stapleton and his fiancé Melissa Stocco of Kitchener.
Isobel was predeceased by her parents, John L. and Ethel (Stutt) MacEwen, her brother Tom and sister Helen, along with numerous in-laws.
Isobel was born on Dec. 23, 1925, on a farm near Wroxeter. As a girl, she attended Kirton’s School in Turnberry Township, the Wroxeter Continuation School and the Wingham High School. She attended the Stratford Normal School and later taught at Currie’s School, SS#9, East Wawanosh. While there, she met local farmer, Bob Arbuckle, and they would marry in June of 1951. They ran a successful beef operation until 1983 when they moved to Wingham.
Isobel was involved in her Church, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian in Wingham, serving as an elder and as a life member of the Women’s Missionary Society. Other community involvement included 12 years on the board of governors at Wingham and District Hospital and as a member of the hospital auxiliary.
Visitation was held at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Monday, Feb. 12 and the funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Wingham on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Interment will take place at Wingham Cemetery in the spring.
