Isobel Gibson
Peacefully at home, surrounded by family, Isobel Gibson was welcomed to heaven with open arms by her brown eyed angel Joe (2020) on Saturday, Oct. 18, in her 96th year.
Dearly loved mother of John Gibson and Wendy Armstrong-Gibson, Joanne Gibson, Paul Gibson and Michelle Braecker and Elizabeth and Rob McGregor. Adored grandmother of Lindsay (Joseph) Louwegie, Jeff (Amanda) Gibson, Heather (Dan) Horta, James Gibson, Kendra (Todd) Redegeld, Kimberly Jewitt, Kelly (Mike) Campbell, Sonya Gibson (Holli Kubicki), PJ Gibson (Cori MacKinnon) and Amber Ferrara.
Cherished great grandmother of Kinsley, Presley, Avery and Sawyer Gibson, Rowan Horta, Brayden, Delaney and Gibson Redegeld, Julie and Kylie Good, Deakin, Lannin, Archer and Maelynn Campbell and Kingston Ferrara.
Predeceased by her mother Florence (Knox) Ludvigsen, father James Chowen, brother Bill Chowen, sister-in-law Bev Chowen, brother-in-law Fred Gibson and sister-in-law Ann Gibson, as well as many friends.
Born in Stratford and raised in Clinton, Isobel was quick to learn the farming life when she became a Farmerette at the age of 16. She married Joe, the love of her life, in 1951, and moved to the farm where she spent the next 74 years. The Farmerettes framed her life with Joe, as she was recently featured in the documentary, We Lend A Hand: The Forgotten Story of Ontario Farmerettes.
Isobel embraced rural living, working the fields and ploughing a near perfect furrow, growing and harvesting beautifully manicured vegetable and flower gardens, serving as a 4-H Leader and tending to her much-loved horses. She gleaned pleasure from volunteering her time to help children hone their reading skills in school and supported English as a Second Language learners in the community. Isobel always had a mending, sewing or quilting project on the go, and a cookie jar filled with her signature oatmeal cookies! She enjoyed sharing her cookies over a heartfelt conversation with visitors or a fun-filled game at the kitchen table. Everyone was always welcome in her home!
Isobel was an ardent fan of her family. She was always in the stands showing her support at sporting, school and community events and she cheered her family on in every aspect of their lives. A truly passionate mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Clinton United Church, or the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Messages of Condolence for the Gibson Family are welcome at www.falconerfuneralhomes.com.
