Huron Heat teams win gold, silver in Cambridge

Over the weekend, two Huron Heat teams headed east to be part of the Cambridge Roadrunners’ 30th annual Girls’ Hockey Tournament, with one returning with gold and the other having to settle for silver.
The action began on Friday. The U13 B Heat beat the Oshawa Lady Generals by a score of 2-1, followed by a 6-1 win over the North York Storm. Meanwhile, the U15 A Heat shutout both the Grand River Mustangs by a score of 3-0 and the host Cambridge Roadrunners by a score of 1-0.
The next day, the U13 B Heat continued their winning ways with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Toronto Leaside Wildcats, punching their ticket to championship play on Sunday. The U15 A Heat then suffered their first loss (allowing their first goals) in a 3-0 loss to the Waterloo Ravens, followed by a 2-2 tie with a second Cambridge Roadrunners team.
On Sunday, the U13 B Heat put their undefeated record on the line against the Kanata Rangers in the semi-finals and shut them out by a score of 2-0. In the finals, the team faced the Toronto Leaside Wildcats in the finals, but lost a heartbreaker by a score of 1-0.
Meanwhile, the U15 A Heat beat the North Simcoe Capitals in the semi-finals by a score of 1-0 before facing the Waterloo Ravens again in the finals, but this time prevailing, winning the championship on the strength of a 4-3 victory.
In other tournament action over the weekend, the U13 C Heat were part of the B.A.D. Blazers’ annual Winter Tournament, losing their first game on Friday night to the eventual tournament-winning Wingham 86ers by a score of 3-0, followed by a 3-0 win over the host Belmont Blazers. The next day, the Heat won again, beating the Lambton Attack by a score of 4-3 and then the South Bruce Blades by a score of 1-0, but falling short of championship round play on Sunday.
The U9 C Heat were also part of the B.A.D. tournament beginning on Friday with a 4-0 loss to the Walkerton Capitals and a 4-2 loss to the Mooretown Lady Flags, followed by Saturday losses to the Bluewater Hawks (8-0) and the Stratford Aces (10-1), ending their tournament early.
In regular season action over the weekend, on Sunday, the U15 BB Heat beat the Lucan Irish by a score of 3-2 in Clinton, the U13 A Heat tied the Stratford Aces at one, also in Clinton and the U9 HL team beat the Lambeth Lancers by a score of 3-2 in Clinton. The Senior C team played Monkton on the road and the U11 A Heat played the Bluewater Hawks on the road, but scores for those games were unavailable at press time.
Also that day were some of the first playoff games for the Heat teams this season. The U11 HL Heat beat the Irish in Lucan by a score of 1-0 and the U15 C Heat beat the Ilderton Jets in Clinton by a score of 2-0. The U18 C Heat had a playoff game with the Rock in St. Marys, but a score for that game was unavailable at press time.
On Saturday, the U11 C Heat tied their playoff game with the Stratford Aces at one in Goderich and the U11 HL Heat hosted a playoff game with the Central Perth Predators in Seaforth, but a score for that game was unavailable at press time. Also that day, the U9 HL team beat the Mooretown Lady Flags in Seaforth by a score of 5-4 and the U18 BB Heat lost their regular season game with the Woodstock Wildcats in Clinton by a score of 4-1.
Back on Tuesday, Jan. 13, the U11 B Heat beat the Twin Centre Hericanes in Seaforth by a score of 4-2.
Looking ahead, the Huron Heat will be sending four teams east for the 46th annual Orangeville Sweethearts Tournament: the U9 B, U11 C, U11 A and U18 C Heat teams.
Action for all of the teams begins on Friday. The U9 B Heat will play the North Bay Junior Lakers and the host Orangeville Tigers, while the U11 A Heat will play the Collingwood Lightning and the Central York Panthers, the U11 C Heat will take on the St. Marys Rock and the Upper Maitland Mustangs and the older girls, the U18 C team, will play the host Orangeville Tigers and Central Perth Predators that day.
On Saturday, the U9 B Heat will take on the Georgina Golden Hawks, the North Halton Twisters and another to-be-determined opponent. The U11 C Heat will play the Lambton Attack and Central Perth Predators on Saturday, while the U11 A Heat is scheduled to play the North Simcoe Capitals on Saturday and the U18 C team will play the Grand River Mustangs.
In regular season play this weekend, on Friday, the Senior C team will play Belmore on the road and the U7 team will play the St. Marys Rock, also on the road, in an exhibition game.
The next day, the U7 team will host the Lucan Irish in Seaforth, the U15 BB Heat will be in London to play the Devilettes, the U9 HL team will play the Aces in Stratford and the U13 A Heat will play the Devilettes in London. The U15 A Heat will be in St. Thomas to play the Panthers, the Senior C team will play the Wilmot Wolverines on the road and the U18 BB Heat will host the Bluewater Hawks in Clinton.
In playoff action that day, the U13 B Heat will play the Devilettes in London and the U11 HL Heat will play the Lucan Irish, the U11 B Heat will play the Wilmot Wolverines, the U13 C Heat will take on the South Huron Sabres and the U13 HL team will also play the South Huron Sabres, all in Seaforth.
On Sunday, in regular season action, the U13 A Heat will take on the Bluewater Hawks and the U15 BB Heat will play the London Devilettes, both in Clinton, while the U15 A Heat will be on the road to play the Bluewater Hawks, the U9 HL Heat will be in Ilderton to play the Jets and the U18 BB Heat will be on the road to play the Bluewater Hawks.
In a pair of playoff games that day, the U11 HL Heat will play the South Huron Sabres on the road and the U11 B Heat will host the Twin Centre Hericanes in Brussels.
In weekday action, on Tuesday, Jan. 27, the U13 A Heat will play a regular season game with the Lambeth Lancers and the U15 B Heat will host a playoff game with the Saugeen Shores Storm, both in Seaforth. Then, on Thursday, Jan. 29, the U15 C Heat will be on the road for a playoff game with the Mount Forest Rams in Arthur.
