HCPM26: Huron's young women to compete for Queen of the Furrow, Princess crowns

At this year’s Huron County Plowing Match, three young women will be competing for the title of Huron County Queen of the Furrow. Here is what you need to know about them.

 

Emma Robinson
Emma Robinson is the 22-year-old daughter of Erin and Jeff Robinson.
A recent graduate from the University of Guelph, Robinson has been working at home on her family’s pig farm recently, while also continuing to volunteer within her community.

 

Katelyn Wynja
Katelyn Wynja is the 18-year-old daughter of Brian and Karen Wynja of Kippen.
She attends the University of Guelph and her goal is to earn her degree in Crop Science there before completing her Master’s in Guelph to become an agronomist.
After schooling, she hopes to live on a farm in Huron County as well.

 

Queenie Pentland
Queenie Pentland is 20 years old and she lives on her family farm near Nile. There, she and her sisters raise beef cattle.
Queenie also enjoys spending time in her garden and baking in her spare time.

 

At this year’s Huron County Plowing Match’s Junior Day, four young women will be competing for the title of Princess of the Huron County Plowing Match. Here is what you need to know about them.

 

Sarah Van Nes
Sarah Van Nes is the 15-year-old daughter of Robert and Andrea Van Nes of Ethel. She will be entering Grade 11 at St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School in Clinton in the fall.
She enjoys skiing, crocheting, sketching, playing piano and reading. Sarah is an eager student at Brussels Karate and she sings with the Formosa Children’s Choir. She also enjoys milking cows on her family’s dairy farm and hopes to possibly pursue a career in agriculture.

 

Leigha Wynja
Leigha Wynja is the 13-year-old daughter of Brian and Karen Wynja of Kippen.
She is a student at Huron Christian School in Clinton and enjoys playing hockey and soccer, in addition to other games as well as spending time with her family and friends.

 

Lily Van Dieten
Lily Van Dieten is the 13-year-old daughter of Jen and Derek Van Dieten.
She attends St. James School in Seaforth and her goals include wanting to be a teacher.

 

Amelia Terpstra
Amelia Terpstra is the 13-year-old daughter of Jason and Michelle Terpstra. 
She most recently attended school in St. Columban and is looking forward to starting high school in the fall, while also participating in 4-H Clubs, specifically the 4-H Swine Club.
