Gwendolyn “Gwen” Hannah (Britton) O’Rourke
Gwendolyn “Gwen” Hannah (Britton) O’Rourke of Vanastra passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by love, on June 5, 2023. She was in her 88th year.
Gwen was the beloved mother of Vicki Craig (Rick), Patti Hendriks (Henry), Gail Riehl (Barry), David O’Rourke (Trina), and James O’Rourke, the proud “Grandma Gwen” of Breanna, and Connor; Brittney (Quinn), Tyler (Emily), and Kylie; Kim (Adam), Craig (Danielle), and Kayla (Lucas); Jared (Danielle), Kyle (Laura), and Ryan, and the great-grandma of nine.
Gwen was the dear sister of Joan Vandermey (Nick), Marg Dale and Ken Britton (Pat). She will be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Gwen was predeceased by her parents, Olive (Workman) and Herb Britton.
Everything in Gwen’s life centered around her family. Gwen was committed to her volunteer work in her community and was
especially proud of her many years of service volunteering with the Blyth Festival and Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association and its annual reunion in Blyth.
Music was an essential part of Gwen’s life. She was an active musician and singer at many jamborees, Tuesday and Thursday Tunes, and was known for her love of dance. Gwen was an avid gardener and felt very blessed to be able to enjoy the wonderful display of spring flowers at her home, where she spent her final weeks celebrating her life amongst family and close, cherished friends.
Visitation was held at Haskett Funeral Home, Seaforth on Monday, June 12.
Gwen’s memorial service was held at Egmondville United Church on Tuesday, June 13 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian Hymers, officiating. Interment, Woodland Cemetery, Mitchell. Friends and family were welcomed to the Seaforth Community Centre following the memorial service. Gwen’s fellow musicians were invited to bring their instruments to celebrate Gwen’s passion for music.
