Fannie Somers
Fannie Somers passed away peacefully at Huronlea Home for the Aged, Brussels, on March 11, 2023, after a brief illness. She was in her 93rd year.
Fannie married George Somers on May 30, 1952. She was the mother of sons Rodger (Dianne), Ross (Judy), Rick (Debbie), Randy (Tammy) and daughter Janice (Bill) Smith. She was the grandmother of Robin Somers, Katrina Somers, Heather Logan, Scott Somers, Troy Gower, Adam Somers, Brett Somers, Sara Somers and Jordan, Zach and Logan Smith and the great-grandmother of 11 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her sisters Doris Stuart and Grace Thompson.
Her husband, George, passed away in December, 2017 and her son, Rodger, in October, 2014. Besides her husband and her son, she was predeceased by brothers, Arthur and Donald McLean, and sisters Janet Currie, Mary Pennington, Ruby Warner and Ella Gwynn.
Fannie worked at Callander Nursing Home and became an RNA in 1970. After retirement, she dedicated her time to checking in on, and caring for her elderly Elizabeth Street neighbours for many years.
Fannie enjoyed camping and travelling with George. Florida was their winter destination and they enjoyed time at their trailer on Lake Huron during the summer. Of course, with George selling snowmobiles, no winter was complete without many trail rides with good friends. Fannie never passed up a card game and as George would say “she would play bridge eight days a week”.
Family and friends will be received at Melville Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 18 at 11 a.m. for visitation, with the funeral service to follow at 12 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Huron Perth Alzheimer Society or the charity of one’s choice.
