Edelgard Hoba
Edelgard Hoba passed on July 6, 2025. Edelgard was born in Goerlsdorf, Germany, the oldest of Hugo and Frieda Kopp’s four children.
Near the end of World War II, the family began its migration to Wehdem, in what was to become West Germany. A few years after the war, Edelgard began business college and later met Hubert, who had also settled in Wehdem after the war.
They eventually planned a new life in Canada, Hubert immigrating in 1954, with Edelgard following two years later. A week after she arrived, they were married in Toronto on March 15, 1956. They became members of the Blyth United Church and Edelgard sang with the Senior Choir for more than 50 years.
Originally living in Blyth, they purchased a 50-acre farm just north of town and made it their home.
Edelgard was predeceased by Hubert, her husband of 66 years. She was the loving mother of Ralph, Michael (Jane) and Mark (Andrea) Hoba. She was the proud grandmother of Andrew (Fiona) and Christine; the grandmother of Kristie, Amy and Darcy, Meagan, Bruno, as well as the proud great-grandmother of four great-grandchildren: Isabella, Giovanni, Ava and Megan.
She is survived by her brother Erhard Kopp of British Columbia and sister-in-law Helga Kopp in Germany.
As Edelgard wished, cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at the Blyth United Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 14, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. with interment of ashes at Blyth Union Cemetery. A social time after the service will take place in the church basement.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Blyth United Church or Huron Hospice would be appreciated.
