Douglas Stuart Cloakey
Douglas Stuart Cloakey passed away unexpectedly on May 22, 2024, at his home outside of Brussels.
The husband of Joan née McArter for 39 years, Doug was the dad (Old Man) of Janisa Cloakey and Jody, and Carter and Krista Cloakey and the grandpa of Cameron and Cole Cloakey.
Doug was the brother of Alex Cloakey, Sharon (Barry) Bondi, and Sandra (Pete) Brommer, and the brother-in-law of Gayle McArter, and Paul and Tracey McArter.
Doug was predeceased by brother Paul, brother-in-law Murray McArter and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Cathy and Doug Snyder.
Doug will be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as granddogs Murphy and Doug.
Doug always had a smile and something to say to everyone. He was grateful for being given another chance 20 years ago and enjoyed watching his children grow up; walking them to the bus stop every morning or carrying them to bed every night.
He saw Carter and Krista get married and have boys of their own. He adored his grandsons, always driving them around on the tractor, lawn mower or four-wheeler and always enjoying a nap with them after.
He looked forward to travelling to Kelowna to see Janisa and Jody. While visiting there, he loved taking long drives through the mountains. His life joys were driving the tractor, doing chores and, best of all, cutting wood and trying to con others into helping him.
Doug spent hours in the shop tinkering and fixing everything, but always had time for coffee and bacon. He was a private person with a quiet demeanor, but don’t let that fool you, as Doug’s family knew him for his dry sense of humour, his one-liners and witty comebacks.
Doug’s family and farm were his life and he will be greatly missed.
Visitation took place on Tuesday, May 28 at Riverside Funeral Home Brussels Chapel followed by a private family service and interment.
In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations to the North Huron firefighters or Huron Chapel Evangelical Missionary Church would be appreciated.
Arrangements were entrusted to Riverside Funeral Home.
