Christopher (Coach) Coulthard
It is with great sadness that the family of Christopher (Coach) Coulthard of Wingham announce his passing at the age of 76.
The beloved husband and high school sweetheart of Pamela (Snively) Coulthard, Chris was the cherished dad of Casey Coulthard of Wingham, Brett and Joanna Coulthard of Barrie, Scott Coulthard of London, and Amy Coulthard of Wingham.
He was the adored grandpa of Luke and Tyson Coulthard, brother of Carol Dodsley, Bruce Coulthard, Betty Roe (John), David Coulthard (Terry) and brother-in-law of Darrel and Linda Snively. He will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Chris was predeceased by his parents, William and June Coulthard, in-laws Don and Margaret Snively, and brother-in-law Dave Dodsley.
Chris was a devoted family man whose greatest pride was the life he shared with Pam and the family they raised together. Above all else, Chris loved spending time with his family at home and at the cottage. Watching his children build their own lives and becoming “Grandpa” to Luke and Tyson brought him great joy.
A gifted athlete in his younger years, Chris developed a lifelong love of basketball. Known for his skill on the court and fierce competitive spirit, he carried that passion forward into coaching. As a teacher and coach at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo and F.E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham, he spent decades encouraging young athletes and students to work hard, value teamwork and believe in themselves. Many former players and students credit Chris with teaching lessons that extended far beyond the gymnasium.
Chris also believed strongly in the power of community. Through his years in sport, education and his volunteer work with Community Living, Wingham and District, he became a familiar and respected figure; a humble man of integrity who always advocated for the value of all people. His quiet leadership, quick wit and steady presence left a lasting impression on those who crossed his path. Many will remember his loyalty, humour and the way he made people feel supported and included.
Chris’s family would like to thank the staff at Southbridge Goderich Long Term Care Home, One Care Wingham Day Away and Dining Programs, Dr. Antoniadis, the staff at both Wingham and District Hospital and Alexandra Marine and General Hospital and the Alzheimer Society of Huron-Perth.
An open house celebration of life for Chris will be held at the Wingham Columbus Centre on Sunday, March 15 from 1-4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Community Living Wingham and District, One Care Home and Community Support Services or Wingham and District Hospital Foundation.
