Bert (Bartheld) Dykstra
Bert (Bartheld) Dykstra passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by family, at University Hospital, London at the age of 76.
He is survived by Nellie (Maaskant) his loving wife of 52 years.
He was the pillar of our family, a wonderful father and father-in-law of Charlene VanGurp (David), Ben Dykstra (Tara), Simona Boeringa (John), Coralie Dykstra (Jeff Clark), Berton Dykstra (Tanya), and Janelle Dykstra.
He was a loving and treasured grandpa of 15 grandchildren, Jordan (Nadine), Aaron, Josiah, Audrey, Aven, Breelyn, Callum, Emma, Nolan (Sarah), Abby, Levi, Olive, Brayden, Danika, and Koen.
He was the cherished brother and brother-in-law of Doreen Siertsema, Helen Dykstra, Kees (Sandra) Dykstra, Francine Dykstra, Lois VanReenen, Alfred (Margaret) Dykstra, Margaret Klaas, Tom (Diane) Dykstra, John Maaskant, Sandy Maaskant, Frieda Maaskant, Hugo (Moira) Maaskant, Rob (Lori) Maaskant, Charlie (Karen) Maaskant, and Micheal Maaskant.
Bert was predeceased by brothers Mike Dykstra and Leo Dykstra, brothers-in-law Murray Siertsema, Bill VanReenen and Murray Klaas, and sister-in-law Simona Maaskant.
Bert was born in Anjum, Friesland and immigrated to Clinton, Ontario when he was seven years old, where he lived for the rest of his earthly life. He was one of the best; loved and respected by so many people. He had an infectious smile with a big heart. He took over the family farm and established Frieshaven Farms, where his love of farming flourished.
He appreciated God’s creation and was able to enjoy the view from the seat of a tractor. Along with farming, Bert was involved with many service groups and community organizations and spent over 20 years in municipal politics serving as councillor, deputy-reeve, reeve, and warden. He was very proud of his accomplishments, while humbly serving the community.
The true joy of his life was being with his family. Above all, he loved the Lord and we can have comfort that he is with Jesus!
Visitation was held at the Clinton Christian Reformed Church on Monday, March 18. The funeral service was also held there on Tuesday, March 19. Cremation has taken place.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Clinton Public Hospital Foundation or Huron Hospice would be appreciated.
