Barbara "Joan" Watson (née Whitfield)
Barbara “Joan” Watson (née Whitfield) passed away peacefully with her children by her side at Stratford General Hospital on Sept. 29, 2017. She was in her 86th year.
Joan was predeceased by her husband Edward. She is lovingly survived by five children, John (Kim), Blyth; Kim (Paul Orrick), London; Jayne Ritchie (Mel), Lucknow; Jeff, Mississauga and Lisa, Toronto; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Rose Marie Campbell (Harold) and brother Karl Whitfield (Sandra), her in-laws Wilma Gummow and Jack Watson (Jean) and many nieces and nephews.
Joan loved nothing more than spending time with her family, travelling (she and Edward with friends and later on her own with her children) and enjoying all the holidays hosting her family in her home in Blyth. Joan was an active member of her community in Blyth all her life through her church (Trinity Anglican), her bridge club and in earlier years, all the activities with which her children were involved. She loved her gardens and especially her roses. She was a teacher and later worked with her husband Edward in the family business, Watson’s Livestock.
Friends and family were received at Trinity Anglican Church, Blyth for visitation on Wednesday, Oct. 4 and from 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5 prior to the funeral service at 1 p.m. The service will take place at Trinity Anglican Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Anglican Church, Blyth or to the Diabetes Foundation.
