Alan “Al” Skelton

Peacefully and surrounded by his family at Wingham and District Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, Alan “Al” Skelton of Wingham passed away at the age of 77. 

 

The beloved husband of Helen (Bird) Skelton for 53 years, Al was the loving father of Cara and Mike Bester of Listowel and the cherished Papa of Tristan Bester. 

 

He was the dear brother of Sharon Philpott of Tillsonburg and Mark and Jenny Skelton of Pefferlaw, and the brother-in-law of Bonnie Bird and Andreas Gada of Roseneath. 

 

Al was the uncle of Lisa Koivu, Gail and Todd McCracken, and Madison and Scott Plourde and the great-uncle of Kate, Mark, Matthew, Ryan, Alexander, Callen, and Tiana.

 

Al was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Shirley (Mason) Skelton, and brother-in-law Jim Philpott.

 

Visitation was held at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Thursday, Sept. 25 and a private funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, Sept. 26 with Rev. Colin Snyder officiating. Final resting place, Brussels Cemetery, Morris Township. 

 

Donations to the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation, Wingham United Church or the North Huron Community Food Share in memory of Alan would be appreciated by the family.
