Agnes Mary (Aagje Marijtje) “Aggie” née van Veen

Mrs. Agnes Mary (Aagje Marijtje) “Aggie” née van Veen went to be with her Lord, with her daughters by her side on Thursday, March 10, 2022. She was in her 82nd year.

 

Agnes was the loving wife of the late Hank Ten Pas (2017) for 56 years. She was the mother of Paul Ten Pas, Patricia and Danny McKay, Linda Ten Pas and Brent Russell and the grandmother of Andrew Ten Pas, Krista and Carter Cloakey, Katelyn McKay and Jesse Rapson, Kirk Lang and the late Nicholas Lang (2015). Agnes displayed a beautiful rosebush and angel in her garden in memory of her late grandson, whom she adored.

 

She was the great-grandmother of Cameron Cloakey, the sister of Gerrit van Veen, Piet (Margaret) van Veen, Alie (Gar) Lee, Clara van Merkestein, Martha (Cees) De Boer and the sister-in-law of Mary Ten Pas-Barneveld, Teresa de Vries, Wilma Ensing Dianne (Reid) Hackwell and Ben (Chris) Ten Pas.

 

Agnes was predeceased by brother-in-law Albert Ten Pas, Cees Reitkirk, Klaas de Vries, and sister-in-law Helen van Veen.
Agnes loved to play the piano, but was never formally trained. She taught herself to play on a pump organ and every family gathering would end with her music. She truly had a gift that she loved to share with everyone.

 

Agnes loved to entertain and did so with grace and love of the season. The detail and attention to each place setting made her guests feel like royalty.

 

Over the years, Aggie was a nanny, and eventually owned her own gift shop for 10 years. She delighted in designing floral arrangements and choosing giftware to showcase. In her retirement she enjoyed spending the afternoon outside in her side garden with Hank and her dog Peanut.

 

Agnes was born in Koudekerk aan den Rijn, Netherlands and in 1948 she immigrated to Canada. She met Hank at church and socials. They were married in 1961. One of the most wonderful things about Agnes was her desire to be a mom. Between 1965 and 1969, Agnes and Hank were blessed to have a unique family of three chosen children. She gave unconditional love and was a very proud mom, grandmother, wife, friend, and peacekeeper. We will miss her dearly.

 

Friends and family were received at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Listowel on Sunday, March 13 for visitation. The funeral service followed. Pastor Henry Meinen officiated.
